There’s an interview with Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man, in the new issue of SFX, and here’s a sneak preview for you:
“Peter Parker’s second in the class… I think that’s a huge part of Gwen’s attraction to Peter. He’s a stand-up guy. From the beginning he displays some heroic qualities, but he’s mysterious to her. They haven’t ever really connected, even though they’ve been in school together for a really long time.
“In the comics, Mary Jane fell for Spider-Man. Gwen is in love with Peter Parker in spite of him being Spider-Man. Because her father leaves every day and faces death… It’s an Elektra complex – the fact that her boyfriend is in the face of danger all the time, and she’s aware of it.”
The Amazing Spider-Man is released in the UK on 3 July.
Emma Stone is a trailblazer. That’s not hyperbole, it’s fact: Just watch the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday and you’ll see for yourself when Stone accepts the first-ever MTV Trailblazer Award. The prize speaks for itself!
It’s no secret that Stone’s a favorite around these parts. What’s not to love? She’s spunky, talented and bold in her choices both on and off the screen. Don’t believe us? We’ll prove it! Here are seven other reasons Emma is more than deserving of the inaugural MTV Trailblazer Award.
» Because she faced a rocky start to her career — having to embody an expectations-heavy character such as Laurie Partridge in the short-lived “The New Partridge Family” and heartbreakingly losing out on a starring role on NBC’s religiously watched “Heroes,” to list two examples — and went on to play countless fantastic roles and win numerous accolades … like this one, for instance.
» How many other 23-year-old stars have zombie apocalypse, stoner comedy, racially charged Oscar-attracting drama and superhero credits to their name? Not too many aside from Emma — and because of her, we hope to see many more young actresses join her diverse ranks in the near future.
» On top of that, she’s entered that none-too-rare stratosphere of Actors Who Date Their Co-Stars (“Amazing Spider-Man” lead Andrew Garfield, if you haven’t been paying attention) and not only isn’t annoying about it, but is actually pretty damn cute about it. Here, look. See? Cute! Her contemporaries could learn a thing or two from her fling with Spidey.
» Speaking of the “Amazing” web-head, Emma’s sporting her natural blond ‘do as the female lead in this summer’s Marvel blockbuster. Who else can serve as a role model to redheads and blondes alike?
» And speaking of “Spider-Man” just one more time, Emma stars in the comic book flick as Peter Parker’s first love interest, Gwen Stacy. Fans of the storied source material already know the final destination of Gwen’s turbulent tale, and it takes a whole lot of courage to embrace such an iconic role knowing full well the tragic fate that lies ahead.
» In further nerdery, Ms. Stone is quite possibly the only person in the history of humanity other than Carrie Fisher who can make Princess Leia look awesome. (No offense, Guild of Slave Leia Cosplayers.)
» Perhaps the most important reason Emma is worthy of the MTV Trailblazer trophy? She made out with Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Like, a lot. And she’s probably going to make out with him a whole lot more in “Gangster Squad.” Like, a lot a lot. (On second thought, I’m not sure that makes her a trailblazer so much as the object-of-every-woman-everywhere’s jealousy, but hey, credit where it’s due.)
iCarly may be winding down production on its final season, but it’s turning up the star power at least one more time: Emma Stone (The Help, Easy A) will make a cameo appearance on the Nick comedy, EW has learned. In the episode, which airs later this year, Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) & co. try to find Spencer (Jerry Trainor) some adult friends, and along the way, they cross paths with a high-energy iCarly uberfan portrayed by Stone.
iCarly will end its five-season run in November, with the series finale being shot in June. Michelle Obama, One Direction, and Jim Parsons are some of the famous names that have recently graced the show, while upcoming guests include Jimmy Fallon and three guys from a certain pawn shop in Las Vegas.
Stone is back on the big screen this summer in The Amazing Spider-Man.
Once a month, Moviefone unveils a new edition of Unscripted, a video series where actors sit down and answer questions that you, the fans, submit. Well, for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” we’ve decided to do something a little different.
This June, Moviefone is giving “Spider-Man” fans a chance to speak with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone directly. The stars of the upcoming superhero flick will be sitting down for a live chat with Spidey followers over Google Plus video hangout on June 8, meaning you’ll get to ask Andrew and Emma your question face-to-face.
In order to participate, all you have to do is this: Tell us what makes you the biggest Spider-Man — or Andrew Garfield or Emma Stone — fan. Those who are selected will have access to a live video chat with two of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
You can leave your answer in the comments over at moviefone.com, on Twitter or on Facebook. You’ll have until June 4 at 5:00 p.m. EST to submit your answers. (Only one answer per person, folks!) The final video will go live closer to the release date of the film.
